## How does Ideogram 4.5 edit an image?

Upload one JPG, PNG or WebP picture, then describe the change. In one recorded poster edit, the date line changed while the title and illustration looked similar. In a lighting edit, the cups stayed in place but their colours shifted and a dish appeared. Pixel-perfect preservation is not guaranteed. Two runs show possibilities and misses; they do not establish a success rate. Medium quality costs 15 credits per output.

## Edits we ran, with the picture each started from

Both edits ran through [fal.ai](https://fal.ai) on October 10, 2026 at medium quality. Use Before and After to see the whole picture, or Compare to move the divider. Read the notes as well as the changed area.

### Poster line changed to Saturday 7 pm
**Requested:** Change the date line to “Every Saturday 7 pm” while preserving the design. **Observed:** The wording changed in the same lettering; the title and illustration look similar. **Limitation:** The result is not pixel-identical. Our JPEG comparison measured an average difference of 3.25 out of 255; inspect the editing guide for the method and limits.
- Prompt: Change the smaller line to read "Every Saturday 7 pm". Keep the title, the lettering style, the illustration, the colours and the paper grain exactly as they are.
- Settings: image to image, 3:4, medium, 864×1152
- Generated: 2026-10-10 (provider request 01a12621-c390-77c2-b54e-ce01db369544), took 23 s, provider cost $0.06

### The three cups by candlelight
**Requested:** Change daylight to candlelight while keeping the cups unchanged. **Observed:** Cup shapes and positions stayed similar; the window went dark and a candle lights the scene from the right. **Limitation:** Every colour shifted, including cream and sage, and an unrequested dish appeared under the candle.
- Prompt: Make it night. The window behind the cups is dark, and a single candle on the right lights them. Keep the three cups, their colours and their positions exactly as they are.
- Settings: image to image, 4:3, medium, 1152×864

## What the pixel comparison does, and does not, prove

We compared the edited poster with the original at every pixel. The difference at a pixel is the largest change in red, green or blue, out of 255. The average was 3.25, and 1.6% of the pixels moved by more than 12. Of those, about 86% sit in the horizontal band that holds the line we asked to change.

We also ran the same edit once with the API’s high-precision setting, which this site does not offer. It measured almost the same: an average of 3.00 and 1.5% of pixels past 12. One run each is too few to say the setting makes no difference.

Both files were saved as JPEG before comparing. Compression can change the measured difference in either direction, so these figures are not an upper bound on the underlying model change. A whole-image average can also hide a local error. The changed wording and the areas you wanted to preserve need separate inspection.

## How to edit a picture here

1. **Upload one picture** JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB. Use a picture you have the right to use; pictures of real people are not accepted for edits that change who they are.
2. **Describe one change** Name the change and the details to preserve. The provider uses the source geometry automatically and may downscale large pictures.
3. **Review, then download** Check the requested edit, other text and the surrounding design. Medium quality is 15 credits per output. A failed request returns its charge; a delivered result you dislike is still charged.

## Questions about editing

### What does an edit cost?

8 credits at low quality, 15 at medium, 55 at high: the same as a new image.

### Does the result keep the shape of my picture?

Both recorded edits kept their input dimensions: 864 × 1,152 and 1,152 × 864. The API uses source geometry automatically but may downscale a large picture. These two examples do not prove that every upload keeps its original pixel dimensions.

### How do I make a second edit?

Download the result, upload that file as the next source and describe your next change. This site does not yet provide a version timeline or a one-click Continue editing action.

### Can I mask an area or add reference pictures?

Not here. The API supports masks and references: up to four references without a mask, or three with a mask. This site takes one picture and a prompt.

### Which pictures can I upload?

JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB, that you have the right to use. Edits that swap a face, undress a person or remove a watermark or logo are not offered here.

### Is my picture kept?

Your upload is sent to the model provider, fal.ai, to make the edit. Finished images are copied to our private storage and can only be opened by your signed-in account. See the [privacy policy](https://ideogram45.online/privacy-policy).
